We are the Shafer family – Owen, Malia, Kathleen and Paul – and Shafer…Power! is a phrase we use when our family goes exploring. Whenever the four of us head out for an adventure, I like to yell, “Shaferrrrr” and the kids will respond, “Power!” If they don’t do it with enough oomph, I get to be the annoying dad who does it again. “Shaferrrrr…Power!” It works every time. Whenever I break out this battle cry, the kids know it. is. on!
Speaking of fun, I’ve decided we need more of it. Maybe it’s just me, but it seems like a kid’s life has become too serious. At the time I am writing this (April, 2012) our six-year-old kindergarten son is already doing 20 to 30 minutes of homework per day. Yes, I know China is knocking on our door, but if our kids aren’t allowed to be kids, they’ll never build the confidence and creativity they need to survive and thrive in this world.
Soooo…I’ve started a little family project so we can have some fun and use more of our creativity. Over the last several months I’ve been thinking about a few entrepreneurial projects, and the kids and I are going to give them a try. I’m not exactly sure where this journey will take us, but I’d like to share it with you. Finally, we’d love to hear your thoughts and we welcome your feedback.
All together now…Shaferrrrr…Power!
