I’ve talked a lot recently about our goals for Shafer…Power!, however, I haven’t spent much time discussing how we’re going to accomplish them. Therefore, I’d like to dedicate this post to what I feel are the most important traits of entrepreneurs who are working to change the world…and how the kids and I will try to leverage some of these traits to accomplish our goals.
On the eve of Mother’s Day 2012 I sat down with Kathleen Shafer – the mother of Owen and Malia – to ask her a few questions about motherhood and entrepreneurism. I was pleasantly surprised at a number of her responses and even got an inside peak at how she makes subtle reminders about important holidays without me even knowing.
Shafer…Power! is off to a great start. We’ve learned some things, sold some things and the kids are having a lot of fun. And based on what we learned from the Mast Brothers about making chocolate, I’m pretty sure we’re going to give it a try (making homemade chocolate) to see if we can move some product during our community thrift sale later this month. One of the best parts of the entrepreneurial journey is the research and learning (let’s call it discovery) that’s done along the way. It seems as though there is something new around every corner and if you open your mind to it, it’ll stretch you like never before. For example, I was recently reading the blog of an aspiring entrepreneur and he recommended three or four podcasts he listens to on a weekly basis for the purpose of being inspired. I decided to take a shot with one of them and can honestly say it’s changing my life.
Every year on my birthday I like to take a step back to reflect on life’s happenings. This year, however, I’m going to switch it up a bit. Since the Shafer…Power! blog was launched exactly one month ago today, I’d like to reflect out loud – on paper, at least – about my children’s future as it pertains to our entrepreneurial journey.
