It’s On! Jesterbucks Coffee Stand, Sunday from 8-10

Why Entrepreneurism?

When I was a little boy, I wanted to be a professional athlete.  Specifically, I wanted to be a professional basketball player.  I used to shoot hoops all day long and pretended I played for the Milwaukee Bucks.  Come to think of it, I wanted to be a professional football player too.  I would emulate the quarterback of the Green Bay Packers by throwing bombs to my big brother in our front yard.

Our First Sale

Owen and I had our first sale this weekend.  Yep, a garage sale.  And what an adventure it was.  I thought it would be an excellent opportunity to introduce him to commerce and it ended up being a learning experience for both of us.

Becoming a Sponge

I’m assuming there will be a lot of lessons along this journey, but the most challenging part will be remaining open to them.  I’ve read over and over that it takes maniacal focus to be successful in the entrepreneurial world; to really put on the blinders and pursue your goal(s) with reckless abandon.  But how will we learn if we have our heads down all the time?

From There to Here

I don’t believe entrepreneurship is a switch that can be flipped on or off.  It’s something that is built and refined over a significant period of time.  Many of the great ones started early, often with a neighborhood paper route or selling stuff door to door.  Modern day technology giants rebuilt computers on their parent’s kitchen table or posted photos of co-eds on the internet for dorm mates to review and analyze.
