Jesterbucks = Success
Our neighborhood coffee stand is in the books and it was a wild success! After borrowing a page from that other large coffee chain, we served Pike Place Roast, chocolate milk and donuts during this morning’s event. The name of our stand – Jesterbucks – even had a familiar ring to it as we incorporated the name of our subdivision + bucks (fingers crossed this isn’t a trademark infringement). We had approximately 20-25 visitors and grossed $22.45.
Some highlights of the event included:
1. This is so boring: Within 20-30 minutes our sweet four year old girl declared, “this is so boring” and disappeared back to the house for a snack. You gotta appreciate her honesty.
2. Too much money: Several of our generous customers left tips with the kids, prompting Owen to respond, “that’s too much money.” Apparently I forgot to teach him about tips. Thank you generous neighbors!
3. Where is everybody?: There were several occasions when we had no customers or neighbors visiting our stand. It was the perfect opportunity to talk with the kids about marketing and the importance of having patience.
4. Customer feedback: Our very first visitor – a woman from the neighborhood out on her morning walk – suggested teaching kids about business at an early age is a great idea. (Thank you for the validation.)
Overall, we had a lot of fun, (mostly riding scooters when nobody was around) we learned a few things (customers can be elusive) and we even earned some spare change for their piggy banks (even though dad lost ~$10 on the deal – which I would do many more times for the experience). Shafer…Power!
